Dr. Malvern Tatenda Chiweshe
Malvern Tatenda Chiweshe (PhD, MA, MPH) is the Director of the Societal Experts Action Network (SEAN) and a Senior Program Officer for Special Projects in the Division of Behavioral and Social Sciences and Education at the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine in Washington, DC, USA. After completing an MA in Clinical Psychology, a PhD in Psychology at Rhodes University in South Africa, and an MPH at Johns Hopkins University, he held research and teaching roles in South Africa, the United Kingdom, Denmark, and the United States. His academic work includes research posts at Rhodes University, the London School of Economics, and Clinigma, Denmark. Malvern has taught undergraduate and graduate students and supervised research projects in psychology and public health. His research has been published in journals including Feminism & Psychology, Agenda, Journal of Health Psychology, International Journal of Behavioral Medicine, Global Public Health, and Issues in Science and Technology, and he has presented at international conferences such as the Population Association of America and the British Society for Population Studies. He applies critical and decolonial approaches to mental health, sexual and reproductive health, and adolescent well-being, and is driven by a belief in education's role in advancing equitable access to quality health care.
