Dr Mimi Chen


Dr Mimi Chen is a Consultant Physician in Bariatric Medicine, Diabetes, and Endocrinology at St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, London. She is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at City St George’s, University of London, and serves as a faculty member and subject-matter expert for the iHeed MSc Diabetes programme delivered by the University of Warwick. Dr Chen is also a current member of the NICE committee for the development of the Type 2 Diabetes Management guideline and an Associate Editor for Clinical Obesity. 

She was awarded a PhD by the University of Bristol for her research on the effects of bariatric surgery on beta-cell function in patients with obesity and diabetes. She serves as Principal and Chief Investigator for multiple academic and industry-sponsored studies and has published numerous first-author peer-reviewed papers, presenting widely at national and international conferences. 

With over 20 years of clinical and research experience, Dr Chen has pioneered several innovative services, including establishing the UK’s first Cardio-Metabolic Clinic in 2020 and co-developing the Cardio-Renal-Metabolic Clinic in 2024. Her work spans clinical practice, education, and service development with a focus on evidence-based management of diabetes and metabolic disease. 

Dr Chen has a strong passion for medical education and teaches both undergraduate and postgraduate medical and allied health professionals. She is actively involved in curriculum development, assessment, and supervision, including oversight of Special Study Modules and clinical training in diabetes, and endocrinology.
