Dr Rizwan Hussain

Rizwan has been a General Practitioner in the UK since 2006 and is a new Course Tutor with iheed. He is a full time Senior Partner at Blackwood Medical Group in The Aneurin Bevan University Health Board. Rizwan is the practice lead for diabetes and conducts clinical research in the areas of therapeutics and medical devices.

Rizwan has a keen interest in medical education, having been an Undergraduate Tutor for Cardiff University 5th year medical students for 8 years. He is a Designated Supervising Medical Practitioner for Cardiff University where he supports Clinical Pharmacists undertaking Independent Prescriber training in primary care. Rizwan has been a GP Trainer for Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW) since 2020.

Rizwan completed the Developing Doctors to Deliver Project for HEIW in 2017 entitled ‘An Analysis of the Challenges of Introducing Independent Prescriber Pharmacists into Primary Care in Wales’. Rizwan completed the LEADGPs Project in 2020 entitled ‘Clinical Outcomes and Patient Reported Outcome Measures of FreeStyle Libre in Aneurin Bevan University Health Board’, where a structured recall system was introduced to conduct baseline and ongoing clinical and patient reported outcomes for flash technology to evaluate its impact on patient care.

Rizwan has taught frequently on diabetes management to local primary care colleagues.

Outside of work he enjoys spending time with his wife and 3 daughters. His hobbies include swimming and road cycling.
