Issam Shaarani

Dr. Issam Shaarani is an Assistant Professor of Family Medicine and Assistant Dean for graduate medical education at the Faculty of Medicine, Beirut Arab University (BAU). He is the Founding Medical Director of BAU Healthcare Center. Dr. Shaarani received his medical degree from Beirut Arab University. He specialized in Family Medicine at the American University of Beirut before obtaining the Arab Board of Family Medicine, and joining AUBMC as clinical associate.

Dr. Shaarani has been involved in many public health projects at the national level, related to integrated health planning, gender-based violence and health care provision to underprivileged population and he currently chairs the Ethics Working Party of the World Organization of Family Doctors – WONCA.

He teaches evidence-based medicine and Family Medicine to the undergraduate medical students. His main research interests are physician-patient interaction, social determinants of health, and e-health, where he has many ongoing research projects.
