Last month, over 40 of our Master of Public Health (MPH) students joined Kelly Colles, Senior Career Consultant at the University of Warwick, for an engaging and practical career seminar dedicated to exploring professional pathways in public health.
The session was designed to give students clear guidance on career options following an MPH, including practical entry routes, progression opportunities, and further study pathways—particularly within international contexts. Kelly also shared valuable insights into effective networking strategies and ways to strengthen professional profiles in a competitive global market.
Throughout the seminar, students explored a range of themes including:
Research and further study options for those considering academia or policy roles
Skills development and professional growth for advancing in public health
Global trends and challenges shaping the field today
With participants from a wide variety of professional backgrounds—including medical doctors, nurses, midwives, pharmacists, and occupational therapists—the discussion offered a rich exchange of perspectives on how diverse experiences can contribute to improving population health outcomes.
The event provided a valuable opportunity for our MPH students to reflect on their career goals, identify next steps, and connect with peers and professionals who share a passion for creating healthier communities worldwide.
Here’s what Kelly had to say about the workshop:
“I really enjoyed the opportunity to share advice and guidance to Public Health students from a variety of backgrounds and hoped to provide a clear context for career planning to all attendees, whatever their starting point. Engaging with the career planning process is key, and I hope to have provided some useful tools to enable them to create meaningful and relevant action points, whatever their next steps and aspirations.” — Kelly Colles, Senior Career Consultant
We’re very grateful to Kelly for sharing her time and expertise with our students. The session was an inspiring reminder of the many ways an MPH can open doors to meaningful and impactful careers in public health.
