Dr Julie Dixon

Programme Lead

Julie stepped into the role of Programme Lead in March 2025, energised by the chance to shape future mental health care. She’s passionate about creating learning environments that spark curiosity, sharpens critical thinking, and builds confident, compassionate practitioners.

A registered mental health nurse since 1996, Julie began her career in the community. Alongside her community nursing practice, she contributed to education as a Lecturer-Practitioner at the University of Nottingham before moving fully into academia in 2003. With more than two decades of teaching and research experience, she has continually expanded her expertise and influence across the field.

Julie’s commitment to lifelong learning has led her to complete a Master’s in Gender Theory, Postgraduate Certificates in Education and Management, Clinical Hypnotherapy training, and a PhD in Higher Education. Her research explored how mental health nursing students’ backgrounds shape their motivations, compassion, and critical thinking.

Her key interests include Mental Health Nursing, Feminism, Clinical Supervision, Psychodynamic and Critical Theory, and professional practice. Above all, Julie is passionate about building meaningful relationships, believing that strong connections help individuals unlock their fullest potential.
