Professor Julie Bruce


Professor Julie Bruce is a clinical trialist specialising in surgery, pain, and rehabilitation. She is a co-investigator on numerous NIHR-funded clinical trials, including projects on robotic hip surgery (HTA RACER-Hip), Long Covid (HTA REGAIN), breast cancer treatment (HTA ATNEC), and ICU recovery (HTA iRehab). Julie was the Chief Investigator for the HTA PROSPER trial, focusing on shoulder problems post-breast cancer surgery. Her recent work also includes studies on spinal stenosis (BOOST), chronic pain after knee surgery (STAR), and bariatric surgery recovery (SCOTS). Julie has published over 140 papers. She was Editor for the Cochrane Collaboration Wounds Group (2015-2023), and currently serves as an editor for the Canadian Journal of Pain. She holds a BSc and MSc from the University of Aberdeen and completed her PhD in Public Health in 2004.
