Rosaley Prakaschandra

Professor Rosaley Prakaschandra holds a Master of Medical Science in Cardiology, and a PhD in Clinical Medicine from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, as well as a MPhil in Health Sciences Education from the University of Cape Town, in South Africa. She possesses over a decade of experience in research leadership, curriculum development, and postgraduate supervision. Her academic and professional journey bridges clinical practice and higher education, giving her a strong foundation for lecturing on the Professional Project in Clinical Research module.
Prof Prakaschandra has designed and coordinated research methodology modules across the undergraduate and postgraduate continuum. She leads departmental research development, supervises Master's and PhD students, and examines dissertations across institutions. Her work involves building student capacity in research design, data analysis, ethics, and academic writing. She has also developed and facilitated targeted workshops to support postgraduate students’ progress, which is well aligned with the programme’s self-directed and tutor-supported learning model.
She serves on institutional research and ethics committees, and is actively engaged in national research projects on continuing professional development (CPD) compliance and is involved in projects exploring epistemic justice in health professions education. These commitments reflect her ability to guide students in developing contextually relevant, ethical, and methodologically sound research projects.
Prof Prakaschandra is experienced in interactive online and hybrid learning environments, using tutorials, discussion forums, and reflective exercises to support student engagement. Her teaching philosophy centres on inquiry, critical reflection, and inclusive supervision, which she offers to students undertaking this module.
