Dr. Rajesh Perumbilavil
Dr. Rajesh Perumbilavil is a seasoned academician with over 26 years of experience across medical schools in India, Malaysia, Anguilla, and Antigua. He holds an MBBS (1991, Madras), MD in Microbiology (2000, Madras), PG Diploma in Medical Education (2019, Dundee), MSc in Medical Education (2021, University of South Wales), and a Professional Diploma in Infectious Diseases (2024, Royal College of Physicians, Ireland).
Dr. Rajesh has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals, focusing on clinical microbiology and best practices in medical education. Passionate about microorganisms—especially their virulence factors and the vaccine prospects—he combines his expertise in clinical microbiology with a strong commitment to teaching. His academic portfolio includes small- and large-group facilitation for medical, dental, pharmacy, physiotherapy, nursing, and allied health students, as well as supervising postgraduate research for MD and MSc Microbiology candidates.
He has held several leadership roles, including Head of Microbiology, Dean of Faculty, and Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academics and International Affairs. As the founder and director of the Center of Excellence for Learning and Teaching at AIMST University, he championed innovative educational practices.
Currently, Dr. Rajesh serves as Professor of Microbiology and Immunology at the American University of Antigua, where he continues to earn excellent student feedback for his engaging teaching style. He believes that being an educator is a lifelong journey of learning, unlearning, and relearning—an opportunity to update knowledge and skills while continually inspiring future healthcare professionals.
