Dr Diarmuid Quinlan


Dr Diarmuid Quinlan is a GP  partner and currently works two days a week at Woodview Family Doctors.  He is Medical Director of the Irish College of GPs (ICGP), which fills the rest of his week! He was the ICGP HSE primary care lead for diabetes integrated care, before demitting this role, becoming ICGP Medical Director in 2020.   He is a director of the Health Products Regulatory Authority , and chair of HPRA Advisory Committee for Human Medicine. He is a director of the charity " charity Diabetes in GP."  He was conferred with a master’s in medical law & ethics (LLM) in Edinburgh University in 2018.

He won the 2018 ICGP “Quality & Safety in Practice” with an initiative “Atrial Fibrillation and Stroke: ABCD of AF-Stroke Prevention in GP”. He won the 2013 ICGP "Quality in Practice" with a Methotrexate Safety initiative. He was awarded FRCGP in 2015 and is currently the chair and provost of the RCGP Ireland faculty. He won the 2017 RCGP "Slaney Prize" for best-published GP research in Ireland. He was awarded RCGP Fellow of the Year 2019. 

He was awarded an HRB scholarship in 1988, completing an honours BSc in Physiology. He graduated from UCC Medical School. He undertook specialist GP Training in Royal Tunbridge Wells, Kent, England. He then worked in Australia, before returning to Ireland.

He is married with four sons. He is now the smallest, lightest and weakest male in his home! When time and weather conditions permit, he is to be found kitesurfing off Cork beaches.
