Carrie has had a long and varied career in the public and private sector. A nurse by background, after qualifying, she spent time in oncology and palliative care before moving to adult education. Following a post as Education Officer at St. Columbas Hospice in Edinburgh she was appointed as an Officer to the Royal College of Nursing. A secondment to the Scottish Executive Health Department to focus on partnership working was followed by appointments as a Management Consultant, and latterly Fellow for the Office for Public Management. From there, she moved back to NHS Dumfries and Galloway in Scotland and then to NHS Tayside, where she established the Tayside Centre for Organisational Effectiveness (TCOE) which acted as an Improvement Hub, across public service and local communities.
She has most recently worked in Australia as the Executive Director for Organisational Effectivness in Western Sydney Local Health District and latterly as the Chief Executive of the NSW Clinical Excellence Commission, the lead agency for safety and quality across New South Wales.
As a Strategic Health Adviser, she now focuses on providing advice to healthcare systems on quality, safety, leadership and governance.
