Dr. Marietjie van Rooyen
She is a Family Physician working part time for multiple educational institutions while running a private practice. She finished her medical- and masters degree as well as her PhD at the University of Pretoria where she had the privilege of working under wonderful mentors that helped her shape her professional identity and create opportunities, nationally and internationally, to develop her skills and abilities. She was a FAIMER fellow of 2006 and part of SAFRI since 2008 as faculty- and Board member. Serve on the AMEE ASPIRE panel for student engagement and worked as an associate editor for the South African Journal of Health Professions Education.
Her interests are medical education, care coordination and making a difference in the lives of her patients and students through commitment, excellence and being person centred.
She believes that we, as professionals, have a responsibility to ourselves, our families, our patients and our communities to be excellent at what we do. To achieve excellence you need to experience, reflect, dream and be. You need to make a choice to wake up every morning with a grateful heart and joyful attitude. She is a single mom of two teenagers and love the feeling of sea sand in-between her toes, while watching the sunset.
