Biography Summary: Dr McVeigh is a Consultant Clinical Geneticist working in the Cancer Genetics Unit in the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust. She has a special interest in Clinical Education, with a particular focus on assessment.

Biography:

Dr Terri McVeigh is a Consultant Clinical Geneticist in the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, specialising in Cancer Genetics. Dr McVeigh undertook undergraduate medical training, postgraduate core surgical training and Higher Specialist Training in Clinical Genetics in Ireland. Her specialist training was funded by the Health Research Board/Health Service Executive National Academic SpR Fellowship Programme, with research fellowships in Yale University, New Haven, USA, and in QIMR Berghofer, Brisbane Australia. She also undertook a Clinical Research Fellowship in the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, and subsequently took up a consultant post there in 2018.

She was awarded a PhD from National University of Ireland, Galway for her work investigating the translational applications of genomic profiling for risk estimation, prognostication and treatment of breast cancer. She also holds a Certificate in Medical Genetics (RCPath) and Postgraduate Diploma in Medical Science, as well as an MSc in Clinical Education.

Dr. McVeigh has a special interest in Medical and Genomics Education. She designed and developed and is Clinical Lead of a fully online postgraduate certificate in Cancer Genetics, accredited by the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland (RCPI). She is a member of the RCPI Academic Board. She is also working with the RCPI to develop educational resources on Reflective Practice.

She acts as a core tutor on the ICR -led Molecular Pathology of Cancer and Application in Cancer Diagnosis, Screening, and Treatment module of the MSc in Genomic Medicine (Imperial College London), and regularly supervises and examines postgraduate research projects. As well as working as module lead and tutor on the Warwick University Accredited MSc in Health Professions Education (iheed), she also continues to work as tutor and co-lead of the Foundations of Assessment module on the Diploma of Health Sciences (Clinical Education), National University of Ireland, Galway.

She is co-lead of the Oncogenomics working group to develop online educational resources (GeNOTES), as part of a collaboration between Health Education England and the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges. She is also working with the Royal College of Radiologists, UK and Association of Cancer Physicians to develop modular Genomics Educational resources. Dr McVeigh is the Social Media and Communications representative, and Council Member of the Cancer Genetics Group (CGG) of the British Society of Genomic Medicine (BSGM); and is the CGG representative on the BSGM Education and Training working group.

Dr. McVeigh keenly supports patient engagement and education. She developed a number of patient information videos, and curates a patient-focused website (www.cancergenetics.ie) and has contributed to the development of resources for patients with gynaecological cancer for the patient-facing website www.thisisgo.ie. She is a member of the medical advisory board of the Ovacome Ovarian Cancer charity in the UK. Dr McVeigh is also a member of the Breast Cancer Now Grants committee.
