Celebrating Nollaig na mBan: Honouring Women in Healthcare

06 Jan 2025

January 6th, the twelfth and final day of Christmas, is traditionally celebrated in Ireland as Nollaig na mBan, or Women’s Christmas. Historically, it was a well-earned day of rest for women after the busy festive season, with household roles reversed: men assumed domestic duties while women took a break and gathered informally to celebrate.

While this tradition may seem very outdated, it remains a meaningful opportunity to recognise and appreciate the efforts and achievements of women.

Women represent an incredible 70% of the global health workforce, forming the backbone of our health systems. Yet, despite their indispensable contributions, they often face undervaluation and lack of recognition.

At iheed, we are proud to take this moment on Nollaig na mBan to honour the immense contributions of female healthcare workers who are vital in improving community and population health worldwide.

We also want to celebrate and express our heartfelt gratitude to the amazing women at iheed. Your dedication, expertise, and hard work are integral to our success. Happy Nollaig na mBan! We would not be where we are today without you.
